Abstract

In August 2020 the City of Denpasar experienced deflation of -0.12 percent as indicated by a decrease in the Consumer Price Index (base year 2018 = 100) from 103.92 in July 2020 to 103.80 in August 2020. Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the year running in August 2020 was recorded as high as 0.14 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019 or YoY) was recorded as high as 0.38 percent.

Of the eleven expenditure groups, five expenditure groups recorded deflation, namely group IX (education) at -1.03 percent; group I (food, beverages, and tobacco) at -0.96 percent; group VI (transportation) as deep as -0.85 percent; group II (clothing and footwear) with a depth of -0.14 percent; group V (health) as deep as -0.07 percent. Meanwhile, four expenditure groups recorded inflation, namely group XI (personal care and other services) as high as 2.02 percent; group IV (equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance) as high as 1.85 percent; group VII (information, communication and financial services) as high as 0.28 percent; and group X (provision of food and beverages / restaurants) as high as 0.24 percent. Two expenditure groups recorded that the index did not change or were stagnant, namely group III (housing, water, electricity, and household fuel) and group VIII (recreation, sports, and culture).

Commodities recorded as contributing to or contributing to deflation in August 2020 include chicken meat, air transportation rates, elementary school education fees, onions, bananas, junior high school education costs, tomatoes, ground coffee, oranges, and chicken liver.

Of the 90 CPI cities, 53 cities experienced deflation and 37 cities experienced inflation. The deepest deflation was recorded in Kota Kupang as deep as -0.92 percent, while the lowest deflation was recorded in Kota Sibolga, Kota Tembilahan, Kota Bekasi, and Kota Banyuwangi as deep as -0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the highest inflation was recorded in Meulaboh City as high as 0.88 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Batam City, Kediri City and Kotamobagu City as high as 0.02 percent respectively. If sorted from the deepest deflation, Denpasar ranks 28th out of 53 cities experiencing deflation. [100-20200901]
